Today the church celebrates the commemoration of all the faithful departed. It is a day of prayer and remembrance for our loved ones. It is the day when the piety of the faithful people visits the cemeteries and remembers and prays for deceased relatives and friends. The liturgical commemoration of the faithful departed is complementary to the Solemnity of All Saints. Our destiny, once we have crossed with and by the grace of God the paths of holiness, is heaven, life forever. And its inexcusable door is physical and earthly disappearance, death.
It is good to wait in silence for the salvation of the Lord
In death we experience pain, bewilderment, weeping for absence, we experience the emptiness left by loved ones who have left this world and there is no peace or consolation; but in the midst of this desolation, which poisons us, a ray of light emerges in our "memory": the Lord. He is my lot, my inheritance, He is my hope, He is faithful, merciful and compassionate. It is good to seek Him and to wait in silence for the salvation of the Lord. He is the clearest image, the most vivid memory, the indelible seal of knowing that we are created and sealed in the image of God.
The yearning to live and love that we carry imprinted in our being people, finds in Him a response that is: new life, resurrection, certain hope of salvation received in baptism. He is the one who, through baptism, makes it possible for us to walk in a new life. With Him, dare to pray: from the depths of my heart I cry out to You Lord, hear my voice... my soul waits for You Lord, for from You comes mercy, abundant redemption.
Let not your heart be troubled, believe in God and believe also in me.
Today we remember those who walked with us, who accompanied us, who gave us life. Through the word of Jesus, it is a memory full of hope: that in the face of death he asks us "do not let your hearts be troubled, believe in God and believe also in me".
To believe is: to accept God as the Father in whom we have our dwelling place, to accept Jesus as the sure way of access to the Father, to live in the new life of the Savior, to walk the way, which is Jesus. To travel it in fraternity in order to bear witness to this truth: God is our Father. In the face of death; to believe is to create a new way of living that removes injustices, wars, hatred, revenge, that removes the culture of death and cultivates life, that helps the disinherited, the impoverished and the marginalized to live; making our fraternal life a celebration and joy because we believe in the resurrection. In the face of death, to believe is to live the mystery of life and death in hope. It is to celebrate life and the author of life who in Christ is the way, and new life that illuminates the meaning of the present life and with its truth makes us see that our existence is called in Him to fullness; to resurrection. In the face of death; believe with living faith that the "dead" sleep in the hope of the resurrection. Let us ask God to increase our faith so that we may be able to believe in his Word that leads us to eternal life.
