PRAYER FOR THE DECEASED

"I am the resurrection and the life," says the Lord; "he who believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live; and whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. Come to his aid, you saints of God; go out to meet him, you angels of the Lord: receive his soul, and present it before the Most High.

S. Christ who called you, receive you, and may the angels lead you to Abraham's bosom.
R. Receive his soul and present it before the Most High.
S. Eternal rest grant unto him (her), O Lord, and let eternal light shine upon him (her).
R. Receive his (her) soul and present it before the Most High.
S. Lord, have mercy.
R. Christ, have mercy, Lord, have mercy. Our Father...
S. Deliver her soul, O Lord.
R. From the pains of hell.
S. Rest in peace.
R. Amen.
S. Lord, hear our prayer.
R. And let our cry come to you.
S. The Lord be with you.
R. And with your spirit.


Prayer
O God, who grants forgiveness and desires the salvation of mankind, we beseech you, through the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary and all the saints, to grant bliss to your child whom you have called out of this world. Do not abandon him (her) into the hands of the enemy, nor forget him (her) forever; but receive him (her) with your holy angels and take him (her) to heaven, his (her) final homeland. And because he (she) believed and hoped in you, grant him (her) the joys of heaven forever. Through Christ our Lord.  Amen.
