Prayer of Thanksgiving of St. Thomas Aquinas
I thank you Lord Father Almighty, eternal God, who to me a sinner, unworthy servant of yours, without any merit and only by your mercy you have deigned to feed me with the Body and to nourish me with the Body and Blood of your Son, our Lord Jesus Christ. I beseech You that this Holy Communion may not be for my soul an occasion of punishment, but a salutary intercession of forgiveness.
May this Holy Communion be for me an armor of faith, a shield of good will, death of my vices, banishment of all my carnal appetites and increase of charity, patience and all the virtues. May it be a worthy defense against all the enemies of my soul. May it be a perfect remedy for my spirit; perpetual friendship with You; my true God and my Lord; and the seal of my death.
Blessed One, I pray You, be pleased to bring this sinner to that ineffable banquet where Thou, with Thy Son and the Holy Spirit, art for all saints, true light, fulfilled satisfaction, everlasting joy, consummate bliss and perfect happiness. Through the same Christ our Lord. Amen.
Prayer of St. Bonaventure
Pierce, my sweetest Jesus and my Lord, the marrow of my soul with the most gentle and most salutary dart of your love; with the true, pure and most holy apostolic charity apostolic charity, so that my soul may always faint and melt only in loving You and in desiring to possess You. and in the desire to possess You: that it may sigh for You, and faint to find itself in the I long to be detached from the body in order to be united with You. Make my soul hunger for You, Bread of the Angels, food for holy souls, Our daily bread, full of strength, of every sweetness and taste, and of every sweet delight.
O Jesus, on whom the Angels desire to gaze: may my heart always hunger for Thee, and the interior of my heart hunger for Thee. hunger for Thee, and the interior of my soul overflow with the sweetness of Thy taste; let my heart always thirst for Thee, fountain of life, fountain of wisdom and knowledge, river of eternal light, torrent of delights, abundance of the House of God: may I desire Thee, seek Thee, find Thee, and find Thee. may I desire Thee, seek Thee, find Thee; may I go to Thee, and come to Thee; may I think of Thee, and speak of Thee, and may I direct all my actions to the honor and glory of your name, with humility and with love and delight, with ease and affection, with perseverance to the end, that Thou alone may my hope, all my trust, my confidence, my riches, my delight, my contentment, my joy, my joy, my happiness. my delight, my contentment, my joy, my rest and tranquility, my peace, my mildness, my fragrance, my sweetness, my food, my nourishment, my refuge, my help, my wisdom, my heritage, my inheritance. my help, my wisdom, my heritage, my inheritance, my possession, my treasure, wherein I am ever fixed and steadfast and unshakably rooted my soul and my heart. Amen.
I adore you with devotion
I adore Thee with devotion, hidden God, truly hidden beneath these appearances.
To Thee my heart submits itself completely and surrenders totally in contemplating Thee.
In judging of You, sight, touch and taste are mistaken; but hearing is enough to believe firmly;
I believe all that the Son of God has said: nothing is truer than this Word of truth.
On the Cross was hidden only the Divinity, but here is hidden also the Humanity.
Yet I believe and confess both, and I ask for what that repentant thief asked for.
I do not see the wounds as Thomas saw them, but I confess that you are my God:
make me to believe more and more in You, to hope in You and to love You.
Memorial of the Lord's death! Living bread that gives life to man:
Grant to my soul that I may live by You and always savor Your sweetness.
Lord Jesus, good Pelican, cleanse me, unclean, with Thy Blood,
of which a single drop can free the whole world from all crimes.
Jesus, whom I now see hidden, I beseech Thee, that what I so long for may be fulfilled:
That looking upon your face face to face, I may be happy to see your glory.
Amen.
Soul of Christ
Soul of Christ, sanctify me.
Body of Christ, save me.
Blood of Christ, embryo me.
Water from the Side of Christ, wash me.
Passion of Christ, comfort me.
O good Jesus, hear me.
Within your wounds, hide me.
Do not let me turn away from You.
From the evil enemy, defend me.
In the hour of my death, call me.
And command me to come to Thee.
That with Thy Saints I may praise Thee.
For ever and ever. Amen.
